Dominican Week opens in the US

It will promote the Dominican Republic as a Nearshore destination and Regional Logistics Hub in the United States. As well as the opportunities of Public-Private Alliance

It is expected that this year the commercial exchange between the country and the United States will exceed 15 billion dollars, revealed Roberto Herrera, president of the Organizing Committee of Dominican Week in the United States.

He indicated that that nation is home to more than two million Dominicans, who sent an average of about four billion dollars in remittances in recent years, a figure that only as of August of this year has already exceeded 7 billion dollars.

In addition, he said that more than 30% of the tourists who come to the DR are North Americans, one of the main industries that sustain the local economy.

In the framework of the opening of the 29th edition of Dominican Week in the US, Herrera, also president of the American Chamber of Commerce (Amchamdr), highlighted that the work agenda will focus on promoting the Dominican Republic as a Nearshore destination and Regional Logistics Hub, especially at a time when the country has a new Customs Law and the implementation of the 24-hour Dispatch of goods in ports.

He cited the public-private partnership opportunities that exist in different sectors of the national economy, the relationship with President Biden’s administration of capital market law.

“The reactivation of tourism and how the Dominican Republic has taken all the necessary measures to assure tourists that our destination is safe, renewable energy and finally, an aspect that has profoundly marked this last year and a half, health,” he said.

He stressed that policies are needed for a transformative recovery with an emphasis on investment. Industrial and technological policies promote the growth of sectors that are more intensive in technology and generate quality jobs. He added that Nearshore is an excellent strategy to achieve this.

This activity will be held until October 1 in hybrid mode in Washington and New York.
