The tourism industry reached a record growth in October, with the arrival of 443,018 non-resident visitors.

“Our tourism industry is seeing a solid, steadfast recovery. Today, I am proud to say that October registered the highest growth for that month in history,” said Collado, while presenting the figures for the month of October at a press conference at the Intercontinental hotel.

The arrival of 443,018 non-resident visitors highlights a full recovery of the influx of tourists received prior to the covid-19 pandemic (precisely October 2019).

According to the figures divulged by Mr. Collado, “tourist arrivals this month exceeded the numbers for October 2019 by 19% and for October 2018 by 7%.”

The non-resident arrivals were made up of 79% by non-resident foreigners and the rest (21%) non-residents born in the Dominican Republic. Foreigners were mainly from North America (44%) and European (35%) countries.

Non-resident Dominicans arriving in October 2021 were equivalent to 120% of the numbers registered in October 2019, while non-resident foreigners arriving in October 2021 were 119% of the total influx for October 2019.

The arrival of non-residents in October 2021 through the airports of Punta Cana, Las Américas, El Cibao, La Romana and La Isabela (which accounted for 96% of arrivals for the month under analysis) also exceeds the October 2019 figures.

The recovery in tourism from the point of view of source countries shows that most of our main sources exceeded the arrivals experienced in October 2019. Cases such as Russia stand out, which, in third place in terms of number of tourists visiting the country during October 2021, reached an all-time high in arrivals (49,521 tourists or 264% the numbers for 2019).

On the other hand, Canada is back among the top three source countries.
