Lawyers from the firm DMK Abogados held a workshop on “Contingency Management in Crisis Situations in the Tourism Sector” as part of the XXXIV ASONAHORES Trade Fair which was held at BlueMall PuntaCana, from October 19th to 21st.
In his presentation on the basic notions of civil liability in the Tourism sector, partner and director of DMK Abogados’ Litigation and Labor department, Iván Orlando García Elsevyf, spoke about the legal basis of civil liability and possible incidents in the hotel sector, such as bodily injury, illness, poisoning, the disappearance of tourists, crimes and misdemeanors committed by and towards tourists, theft (inside the facilities and in the beach areas,) death. He also put forward preventive measures to be taken during and after any such occurrence in the tourism industry.
Meanwhile, speaking about preventive behavior for those involved in the tourism industry when faced with criminal acts occurring in their establishments, Senior Litigation Lawyer at DMK Abogados, Eduardo Arturo Moreta Bello mentioned the implications of telecommunications in market demands, some types of crime commonly carried out in hotel establishments and good commercial practices.
Vanessa Retif Álvarez, Senior Lawyer in the DMK Abogado’s Labor department, spoke about the prevention and countermeasures for work accidents in the tourism sector. Ms. Retif put forward recommendations on how to best handle work accidents, which include identifying the causes of accidents by examining the facts leading up to the event; training hotel staff; Occupational Health and Safety Procedure Manual; fluid proactive communication; intervention in technology, equipment and Prevention standards, among others.
The workshop was attended by General Managers, HR Managers, and legal managers who all agreed that it was a success.
