As keynote speaker at the business lunch of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santiago, the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, described the northern region as a strongly anchored pillar and a robust structural element that supports much of the national economy, which allows it to resist the economic shocks that impact the country as a result of world events. 

“The achievements we show as a country and the high marks that the northern region has obtained over the years, are strong motivation to continue working with more impetus. Our government has you at the center of public policies that drive the nation towards sustainable and successful production,” said the official. 

She added that the successful public-private collaboration that has characterized Santiago and the Government must be kept up and expanded, because the northern zone, and especially Santiago, is essential in continuing reaching the development milestones that the country deserves.

“In this period of government, headed by President Luis Abinader, there has been a major concurrence of public and private investments that have enhanced the economic and social value of the northern zone,” said the vice president. For his part, Carlos Iglesias, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Santiago highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit of the Santiago business community, overcoming past challenges to see future challenges with optimism. “We support innovation and entrepreneurship, and promote corporate social responsibility, assuming the challenges of caring for the environment and climate change,” said Carlos Iglesias. With the developing the potential of the region in mind, the topics of the impact of Santiago on the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), investments in the region, the expected sectors with greater participation in production and employment were broached during the event.
