Its path shows its business leadership and positioning in the national tourism industry.

Grupo Puntacana celebrates its 55th anniversary by reaffirming its legacy with a clear vision: to promote innovation and expand its operations, as part of its diversification strategies, focused on its fundamental pillars: economic growth, social development and environmental preservation.

The Grupo Puntacana brand, made up of 12 companies, is led by Frank Elias Rainieri, president and CEO; Paola Rainieri, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO); and Francesca Rainieri, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Grupo Puntacana. The company drives the development of the eastern region through a unique business model, encompassing an airport, a foundation, hospitality, real estate, services and community, education and, most recently, a logistics center and free zone.

Since its inception in 1969, the North American businessmen who initiated the project together with Frank R. Rainieri, envisioned developing a socially responsible tourist community that respects the environment, to offer visitors unique experiences.

Since then, the business group has been based on values such as business, social and environmental responsibility; loyalty, ethics, quality and service. They continue to support the growth of the area, its overall development and the ongoing improvement of the living conditions of the communities that surround them, offering opportunities with access to housing, quality health, education, recreation and culture.

The Puntacana Foundation has a Sustainability Center and a Marine Innovation Center that manages more than 10 environmental impact programs. In addition, it develops social projects that impact communities in the areas of health, education, culture, sports, community development and citizen security.

2024 Milestones

This year, they commemorate 40 years of historic milestones for Punta Cana Airport and the expansion of Terminal B. The airport began operations in 1983 and was the first private aerodrome for international commercial use in the world, handling 68% of the country’s tourist traffic, connecting with 75 cities in 34 countries through 58 airlines, mobilizing more than 9 million passengers and transporting more than 25 million kilos of cargo annually. The PUJ has 2 runways, 33 boarding gates, 38 aircraft parking and 7 VIP lounges.

In addition, they successfully celebrated the 15th Punta Cana Carnival, the 7th Corales Puntacana Championship, the 1st PGA TOUR event in the Dominican Republic, as well as signing an agreement with Cheddi Jagan International Airport for the joint construction, operation and management of a new airport terminal at Cheddi Jagan Airport in Guyana.

Focused on results, their tireless work led to acknowledgements in 3 categories at the 11th Latam Digital 2024 awards, which Interlat conducts every year in recognition of the digital industry in Latin America and the Caribbean. They were also recognized by the Ministry of Labor, for the second consecutive year, as a “company of excellence in Good Practices of Safety and Health at Work”, for investing in the health and well-being of its employees, fostering a positive productive work environment.

Expansion and Innovation

Currently, the construction of the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone (PCFTZ), an air, sea and land logistics center with a free zone park, is in the final stage, where cargo logistics operations and offices will be housed for the development of the Punta Cana Hub, aimed at innovating and developing Fintech companies. By creating 10 thousand jobs, this project contributes to the sustained economic growth of the area, and places Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic as leaders in trade and foreign investment at the international level.

As part of the sustainable policy, they are developing a solar energy generation project together with the company Eurelius that will supply more than 50% of the electricity consumed by the community of Punta Cana, thus contributing to the development of a more sustainable destination while preventing the emission of more than 25 thousand tons of CO2 per year, which will reduce the energy cost.

The company continues creating quality jobs, opportunities and supporting expansion, this time, together with Mac Hotels and Marriott International, with whom it joined to open W Punta Cana, the first W Hotels in the country, located in Uvero Alto, they are preparing to open an all-inclusive luxury property for adults only, one of the first “W all-inclusive” resorts,  with an investment of 130 million dollars that will generate 600 jobs.
