60% of the hotels that Grupo Piñero has in the Dominican Republic have already opened their doors to the public and in July the Luxury Bahía Príncipe Esmeralda in Punta Cana will also be added, which has more than 500 rooms, according to Encarna Piñero, CEO of the group and president of the International Association of Hotel Investors (Inverotel).

After recalling that they were the first to open their hotels in Punta Cana in July of last year, Piñero stressed that in the context of the pandemic, the Dominican Republic has an advantage over other destinations: the square meter per customer is much higher than in other places, something that is now highly valued by tourists.

Piñero also stressed that at the moment in the country there is great stability in the tourism sector, as well as in the investments that the group has in the Dominican Republic, which reach more than seven thousand rooms in Río San Juan, La Romana, Samaná and Punta Cana.

Regarding their hotels, Piñero explained that two years ago they had invested in the renovation of the Luxury Bahía Príncipe Ámbar and, thanks to this, they managed to reposition it. Therefore, she pointed out, despite the pandemic, the hotel has managed to maintain high occupancy and high average rates.

Tourism will change. For Piñero, the Dominican Republic has everything that people are looking for right now, after having spent a year locked in by the pandemic: open spaces, sea breeze, nature, sun, good experiences, and integration with the community. “That is an added value that the client has now discovered with the new opening,” she said.

The pandemic, according to Piñero, will change tourism. “I believe that people are going to be much more sensitive to environmental balance, they are going to be more inclusive with local communities, more honest, and in some way generating value.”

For Piñero, both the investor and the tourist of today will have that new sensitivity of how they are contributing with their tourism, with consumption, towards what the local community and the development of the country are.

About Miches and Pedernales. When speaking about a possible investment of the group in Miches and Pedernales, Piñero affirmed that they are two poles that interest them because they have all the conditions to develop. Still, however, they do not have a defined project because they are focused on reopening the hotels they have in the country.

In any case, Piñero said that the hotels that they would build in those areas will be different because they will work more with sustainability, environmental and social balance to ensure that they continue to be sustainable destinations in the future and that they do not lose the essence of what the Dominican Republic is: the spirit of what people expect in a Caribbean destination.

“They will be more eco-sustainable hotels, taking advantage of solar energy, with green energy and that also contribute to the social development of local communities. Above all, they have to be highly integrated with the environmental ecosystem ”, pointed out the main investor in the hotel sector in the Dominican Republic.

Piñero said that they are interested in Miches and Pedernales because they have the conditions to be new tourist poles.
