The Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), highlighted that the inclusion of the country for the ease of entry to 85 airports of the United States means a great advance that strengthens the relations and trust of both countries in matters of migratory security.

David Llibre, president of Asonahores expressed that the entity appreciates that the results of these negotiations carried out by the Government and the General Directorate of Customs will allow Dominican citizens to speed up the procedures for entry into the United States.

“This type of initiative is a sign of the stability and legal security that the Dominican Republic exhibits and strengthens tourism ties between both nations, directly impacting frequent travelers by reducing waiting time,” said Llibre.

Asonahores appreciated the decision of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that makes the Dominican Republic the sixth country in Latin America and the 16th in the world to be part of the Global Entry program.

The Global Entry program will cost a five-year membership and requires periodic renewal, travelers must have prior approval, and undergo a background check and an in-person interview prior to enrollment. Passing these requirements will save time in the immigration process.

Among the benefits of the program are queue-free immigration checks at U.S. airports, no paperwork, and TSA PreCheck, which eliminates the need to remove clothing at the security checkpoint.
