The value of exports from the free zone sector registered a 2.5% increase during the first quarter of this year compared to the same period of 2022, going from an exported value of US$ 1,851.6 million during the period January-March 2022 to US$ 1,898.6 million in 2023.
According to the statements by the executive director of the National Council of Free Export Zones (CNZFE), Daniel Liranzo, in absolute terms this growth represents an increase of US$ 47.0 million.
Similarly, Liranzo reported that exports from this sector accounted for 63.2 percent of the country’s total exports.
According to figures from the General Directorate of Customs (DGA), the performance of exports during the month of March registered an increase of 5.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, going from an exported value of US$ 728.0 million in 2022 to US$ 768.2 million in 2023.
He pointed out that the productive subsectors of free zones that showed greater increases in the value of their exports during the first quarter of 2023, are the following: agro-industrial products, with a growth of 23.8%; plastic items, with 21.0%; metals and metal articles, with 19.7%; electrical products, with 9.7 percent; medical devices, at 9.0 percent.
