The president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), David Llibre, said that the Dominican Republic is not just sand and sun, but is a benchmark in tourism throughout the Caribbean region.
“Today, we are not just sand and sun, but gradually making a name for ourselves as a benchmark in health tourism, shopping tourism, business tourism, adventure tourism and sports tourism, among others,” said Llibre while taking part in the 23rd Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE).
He pointed out that the Dominican Republic has managed to place itself in a privileged position.
“We can summarize by saying that, despite the crisis, today we receive more international flights, more tourists, more investments and have more projects underway or in the pipeline,” he stressed.
In his opinion, the tourism boom includes various initiatives, including the “interesting tourism project in Cabo Rojo, Pedernales, with a focus on sustainable development and encounter with nature, where eight major hotel chains already participate, the first two hotels are already underway along with and the supporting infrastructure”.
On the other hand, he mentioned the projects that are being developed on the north coast of the country.
“Another interesting project, Punta Bergantín, 20 minutes from downtown Puerto Plata, which includes hotels, holiday homes, golf course, film studios, and a project for academics, and the modern creatives that today we call digital nomads,” he said.
Asonahores Executive vice president, Andrés Marranzini Grullón, said that the participation of international delegates at Date 2023 increased by 37%.
“A reflection of this increase is the result of the maturity reached by Dominican tourism,” he said when speaking a few words at the event.
He said that this year the international delegates “will be able to check our booming tourism and meet with highly professional suppliers who offer a product with an unbeatable quality/price ratio.”
