President Luis Abinader said yesterday he has an “optimistic” attitude to the growth of the Dominican economy in the remaining months of 2022 and for next year.
During the Tenth National Congress of the Federation of Merchants and Entrepreneurs of the Dominican Republic (Fenacerd), which took place at the Barceló hotel in the capital city, the President emphasized that he is “more convinced than ever that the alliance between the productive sectors and the government is what has really helped the economy and will continue to help it.”
“I am very optimistic about the Dominican economy, so, I am also sure we will be the guiding light of Latin America next year, just like we have been these years of economic recovery,” he said. He also specified that this achievement is not exclusive to the government but to the set of micro-, small, and medium enterprises that have contributed to that recovery. Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of Fenacerd, its president José Díaz asked the government to implement a program to apply the Simplified Formalization Regime.
He considered that the Dominican Republic is and will be the “guiding light for Latin America” in so far as economic recovery.
“I want to share the optimism, which is not only optimism but also realism of the president of Fenacerd, José Díaz, in relation to the Dominican economy,” he reiterated.
The President also cited some data that the president of Fenacerd highlighted at the event. “As Jose Diaz said, between 5 and 5.5 %, but next year there will also be an average of 4.5 %, but I would say within a margin of 4 or 5 %.”
In addition, the head of state indicated “that, apart from the fact that the Dominican Republic has a very diverse production matrix, the news that is coming out that can harm the world economy, will not necessarily affect our country.”
He explained that the main axis of the Dominican economy its varied productive sector, such as industry and construction, which are “very dynamic.”
He explained that in the sector that comprises the free zones growth is forecast at 20%, while the agricultural sector, has increased production this year, except for rice, which he admitted was affected by the rains from storm Fiona.

Díaz asked the government on behalf of the trade organization to implement a program to apply the Simplified Formalization Regime.
He also asked to include a tax amnesty and a contributory regime tailored to microenterprises, allowing them to be included in the Social Security System, a media campaign, the intermediation of organized trade institutions, universities, electronic training, financing and incentives, training programs in secondary education on the creation and development of MSMEs.
“An adjusted program is necessary to implement a Simplified Formalization Regime for subsistence and accumulation microenterprises, since they do not have the same sales and payment capacities as large ones,” said José Díaz, re-elected president of Fenacerd who was sworn into the new board of directors.
