• Collado assured that the country recovered the European market and that the figures for the US, Canadian and Latin American markets are looking good.

According to Tourism Minister David Collado, the Dominican Republic plans to reach 12.5 million tourist arrivals by the end of this year, thanks to the increase in visitor arrivals each month.

During the opening ceremony of the 30th edition of the International Tourism Fair of Latin America (FIT), where this year the DR is a guest partner, Collado reported that the country is on its way to achieving that goal, which would represent the best year in the history of tourism. “The country’s growth is continuous. We are living the best moment in tourism with a diversification of the sector,” he reiterated.

He explained how this year is the best year for Dominican tourism because the European market has bounced back, given the positive numbers of visitor arrivals from Spain, England and France. Meanwhile, he added, the United States, Canada and Latin America are also showing positive numbers this year.

“Without a doubt, this is why today I can confirm that we are on our way to 12.5 million visitors to the DR,” he highlighted.

He said that in 2023 we received 10.3 million visitors, a figure that had been predicted stipulated for the year 2027. Then, in 2024 the number reached 12.2 million, exceeding the country’s population. He emphasized that this is the fruit of six years of work implementing respect for the DR brand.

Argentina a key figure

Collado said Argentina has played a key role in the DR’s month-over-month growth in visitor arrivals, becoming the third-largest source market in the Americas. He added that 341,000 Argentine visitors have arrived this year, with the total expected to reach 500,000—generating jobs, foreign exchange, and opportunities across the DR’s tourism value chain, including for artisans and taxi drivers.

“You have supported tourism’s economic development in recent years,” he added.
