Milestone for Dominican Airline Arajet: Lands in the United States
Dominican airline Arajet has made history with its debut in the United States, launching service between Santo Domingo and Miami aboard one of its Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, registration HI1101—marking the beginning of its ambitious expansion into the U.S. market.
With the launch of this new route, which began operations on Friday, April 11, Arajet strengthens its hub model in the Dominican Republic, enabling connections between North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean.
The route will initially operate four times a week, and starting June 13, it will become a daily service. For now, the system shows available connections via Santo Domingo between Miami and Aruba, Bogotá, Cancún, Curaçao, Guatemala, Medellín, Mexico City, San José (Costa Rica), and San Salvador.
The flight from Santo Domingo was seen off by Mónika Infante, CEO of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), and Ariel Yánez, representing the United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic.
“This is a historic moment for Arajet and for the entire Dominican Republic,” said Víctor Pacheco Méndez, CEO of Arajet. “This first flight to the Latin American capital, Miami, is just the beginning of our commitment to offering efficient and affordable travel options for our passengers, connecting this city to the continent and promoting tourism, business, and cultural exchanges between our nations.”
Upon arrival in Miami, the aircraft was welcomed with a celebratory water salute before parking at Gate E10, where both the Dominican and U.S. flags were waved in celebration.
“We proudly welcome Arajet Airlines and thank them for choosing MIA as their first destination in the United States,” said Ralph Cutié, Director and CEO of Miami International Airport. “We hope their new flights bring even more visitors to our community and give our residents another affordable option for travel to the Dominican Republic.”
Geanilda Vásquez, Dominican Republic’s Consul General in Miami, also celebrated the inaugural flight, stating:
“This flight is an achievement that reflects the growth of our aviation sector and the increasing connectivity that benefits both Dominicans and those who wish to visit our country. I want to congratulate the aviation authorities of both nations, the Arajet team, and everyone who made this possible.”
During the inaugural flight, the airline recognized Pablo Mejía Durán as the first Dominican passenger to fly to the United States with Arajet. He expressed:
“I feel proud to travel with Arajet to visit my family in Miami. This is our Dominican airline, and we must support it.”
Arajet’s expansion into the U.S. market, after having flown over two million passengers since launching operations 30 months ago, highlights the rapid growth of the Dominican aviation sector and its ability to compete globally. The airline remains committed to providing world-class service, competitive fares, and expanded routes to meet rising traveler demand.
Currently operating 28 routes to 21 international destinations from its hubs in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, Arajet continues to consolidate its presence in the region.
The newly launched Santo Domingo–Miami route will soon be complemented by the Punta Cana (PUJ)–Miami route, starting June 13 with six weekly frequencies. Additionally, service will begin to San Juan (SJU) and Newark (EWR) on June 6 and June 16, respectively.
Newark will be served with four weekly flights, while San Juan will be operated from both Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, also with four weekly flights each.
All three new destinations are focused on serving the Dominican diaspora in the United States, particularly in the states of Florida, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.
