The Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, said that the Dominican Republic is the best country to invest in the industry and highlighted the support that banks have been providing directly to the projects being developed in the country.
He also announced plans to hold the first international investment forum in the Dominican Republic in March 2022.
“We are going to see agendas and organize an historic forum for the Americas, America needs investments and America needs jobs and there is no better place to invest than in the Dominican Republic. That’s what I’m saying to everybody, to the members when they ask me. We are very excited to have partners as strong, professional, friendly and interesting as the Dominican Republic,” said Pololikashvili, UNWTO Executive.
Participating virtually in Asonahores´ fifth “Tourism Investment Forum”, Zurab Pololikashvili said that there is talk of compiling a guide as to why investors should invest in the Dominican Republic.
“I believe that if we put every effort in, we can hold an historic forum in the Dominican Republic in March. There we have the banks, we have a Ministry, we have a private sector, we have an excellent president of the Republic who knows better than other presidents around the world the importance of tourism for the economy and for the country,” said the UNWTO representative.
He stressed that during his first term on his various trips worldwide he never saw the closeness that exists between the private sector and the Dominican government in any other country.
“I believe that the Dominican Republic is the only country in the world where banks are supporting tourism development directly like this, it is the only country in the world where banks compile reports on sustainability in tourism, that doesn´t happen anywhere else, and I want to say to Samuel Pereyra and Banco Popular that we are going to host this project as a pilot for other countries, to teach them and explain to them how to draw the banking sector towards the tourism industry that needs financing and support,” he said.
