- 99.5% of tourists are satisfied with the quality of food in the Dominican Republic
Tourists who visited the Dominican Republic in 2024 showed a higher level of satisfaction in key aspects of their experience, compared to the previous year, according to the results of the 2024 Survey of Opinion, Attitudes and Motivations of Non-Resident Foreigners, published by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD).
According to the survey, satisfaction with hotel services increased: 75.5% of respondents rated the service received as “Excellent” or “Very Good” in 2024, compared to 72% in 2023.
Likewise, the proportion of tourists who rated these services as “Bad” or “Very Bad” fell from 0.3% to 0.1% in the same period.
- The Central Bank’s study was carried out through simultaneous surveys applied to 31,846 tourists at the country’s main international airports: Las Américas, Punta Cana, Puerto Plata, Cibao, La Romana and Samaná.
According to BCRD data, the number of non-resident air passengers reached 8,535,701 at the end of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 5.9%, equivalent to 477,030 additional tourists compared to 2023.
Of the total, 83.5% corresponded to foreign travelers (7,125,362 people) and the remaining 16.5% to non-resident Dominicans (1,410,338 people).
Gastronomy
The perception was also positive in terms of gastronomy. In 2024, 83.9% of visitors rated the quality of the food as “Excellent” or “Very Good,” compared to 81.9% in 2023. The proportion of tourists who considered it “Bad” decreased from 0.2% to 0.1%.
In addition, 15.8% of tourists in 2024 rated the meal service as “Good” or “Acceptable”, raising the overall level of satisfaction in this aspect to 99.7%.
On the other hand, the quality of the food was rated “Excellent” or “Very Good” by 84.7% of the respondents, in addition to 14.8% who rated it as “Good” or “Acceptable”, meaning 99.5% total satisfaction. In 2023, these figures were 81.9% and 17.2%, respectively, for a total of 99.1%, slightly lower than that recorded in 2024.
The overall perception of the trip continues to be very positive. In 2024, 99.8% of tourists said their expectations were met, a slight improvement from the 99.5% reported in 2023, indicating sustainably high levels of satisfaction among visitors.
Beach services also reflected progress. The “Excellent” or “Very Good” rating increased from 72.2% in 2023 to 77.2% in 2024. When also considering the 15.7% who rated this service as “Good” or “Acceptable”, the total level of satisfaction reached 91.9%, exceeding the 87.9% of the previous year.
As for the service at the airports, tourists also showed a more favorable perception. In 2024, 87.2% rated it as “Excellent” or “Very Good,” up from 87% in 2023. Only 0.1% rated it as “Bad” or “Very Bad.”
Adding the 12.6% who considered it “Good” or “Acceptable”, the general satisfaction in this aspect stood at 99.8%, a figure that remains the same as the previous year.
