The labor market in the Dominican Republic reached a record number of 5,050,930 workers in the October-December 2024 quarter, according to the latest Macroeconomic Situation Report from the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Development (MEPyD).
This growth represented the creation of 97,988 new jobs compared to the same period in 2023, contributing to the highest employment rate ever recorded (62.3%).
Additionally, the informality rate was reduced to 54.8%, the lowest ever recorded, although gender gaps and wage inequalities persist within the informal sector.
Según una infografía de la Oficina Nacional de Estadísticas (ONE), en 2023, el 94.5 % de los trabajadores del servicio doméstico se encontraba en condiciones de informalidad. Las actividades con mayor proporción de empleados informales fueron Comercio (26.8 %), Otros Servicios (25.9 %), Construcción (14.9 %) y Agricultura y Ganadería (13.4 %).
Detalla que, en términos salariales, los hombres en el sector informal ganaron un promedio de 126.2 pesos por hora, unos 32.0 pesos más que las mujeres.
