During the meeting, a contract was signed with the State for the implementation of five free zone parks, which will boost the economy of the localities of Santiago, Espaillat, San Pedro, and Santo Domingo.

On the performance of the sector
Liranzo highlighted that the free zone sector in the first four months of this year continued to increase the generation of jobs, registering 194,736, for an increase of 5,341 new jobs, compared to the same period of the previous year. This growth was led by the subsectors of services, tobacco, and its derivatives, and textile manufacturing.

He added that exports reached US$2,507.7 million in this period.

The session was chaired by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, who was also accompanied by the executive director of the Cnzfe, the president of the Dominican Association of Free Trade Zones (Adozona), Luis José Bonilla, as well as other personalities and actors of the sector.

In the fourth ordinary session, the Board of Directors of the National Council of Free Export Zones (Cnzfe) approved the installation of 12 free zone companies, which will entail an investment of 42,127,136.96 pesos.

According to the information provided by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM), Víctor -Ito- Bisonó in a press release, these companies will generate 1,512 direct jobs, and it is projected that 16.94 million dollars will enter the country in foreign currency.

Cnzfe’s executive director, Daniel Liranzo, informed us that these companies will be engaged in:

cigar manufacturing, tobacco processing, call center services, recycling, logistics services, textile manufacturing, and plastic products manufacturing, among others.
The provinces where the new companies will be located are:

Santo Domingo, Santiago, Hermanas Mirabal and La Altagracia.

Two new parks are approved
Permits were approved for the installation of two new parks, with an estimated investment of US$14,295,565.54 which, in turn, will generate 2,864 direct jobs.

Liranzo emphasized that with the installation of these companies and parks, the free zone sector continues its commitment to promoting the creation of quality jobs in the country.
