Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) reached a record of 8 million in passenger movement in one year, becoming the first airport in the country to reach this figure.

“Today we celebrate 8 million passengers, representing 8 million adventures, smiles, new ways of seeing life, family gatherings and happy vacations for each of the passengers who have created memories through our airport. This recognition is the result of the hard work of our airport community, who are committed to offering our visitors a safe and enjoyable travel experience,” said Frank Elías Rainieri, president and CEO of Grupo Puntacana.

He added that this result is the fruit of decades of arduous work, which shows the advances and growth of the country and the Dominican tourism industry.

” December 17 marked the 39th anniversary of our Punta Cana International Airport, and we celebrate with humility and gratitude that an original Dominican brand that started out 39 years ago is now the benchmark of an internationally known tourist destination, today receiving 65% of tourists visiting our country, “said Rainieri.

For the sixth year running, PUJ airport received the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) award from the Airports Council International, known as the leading program for benchmarking and measuring passenger experiences at airports by assessing passenger satisfaction.

Last week the airport received 574 international flights, another milestone for the airport that registered 537 international flights as a cap in 2021. It should be noted that, during the months of June and July 2022, Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) achieved a record number of passengers passing through this terminal in recent years, with 1,175,875 passengers entering and leaving the country from 28 countries in Asia, Europe, North America and the Caribbean.

The new air frequencies have been key to the increase in passengers, highlighting the routes from Colombia, in addition to traditional markets such as the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Spain and England.
