“The Bride of the Atlantic” Becomes a Key Destination in Caribbean Cruise Tourism
Puerto Plata is set to make a historic mark in December by receiving 86 cruise ships, establishing an unprecedented record in the Dominican Republic’s tourism industry and strengthening its position as a strategic destination in the Caribbean.
Carlos Atahualpa Paulino, the regional director of Tourism for the North, announced that the Amber Cove terminal, located in Maimón Bay, will welcome 32 ships, while the Taíno Bay terminal will host 54 cruise ships.
For four days in the month, five cruise ships will dock simultaneously at these facilities, showcasing the operational capacity and dynamism of both ports. This milestone further cements Puerto Plata’s growing importance in the Caribbean cruise tourism sector.
It is estimated that the cruise ships arriving in Puerto Plata will bring around 258,000 tourists throughout the month, considering an average capacity of 3,000 passengers per ship.
This massive influx of visitors represents a great opportunity to boost the local economy and promote the region’s tourist attractions, emphasized the official.
Paulino noted that this achievement is the result of efforts by the Ministry of Tourism to attract more visitors to the Dominican coastline. “Puerto Plata is ready to welcome thousands of tourists, showcasing its natural wealth and unique hospitality,” he stated.
He also pointed out that this growth reflects the province’s positioning as a destination that combines nature, culture, and a diverse tourism offer. “Most cruise lines are promoting Puerto Plata as a must-stop on their itineraries,” he added.
Attractive for Tourism
The province, known as “The Bride of the Atlantic,” offers attractions such as paradisiacal beaches, mountainous landscapes, the 27 Charcos de Damajagua, and a vibrant cultural life.
These qualities continue to position it as a favorite destination for international travelers, according to the press release.
