In an emotional message broadcasted on social media and major television networks, President Luis Abinader addressed the nation to reflect on the achievements made, the challenges overcome, and the ambitious goals pursued by his government. The speech, filled with the Christmas spirit, aimed to inspire hope and unity among Dominicans.
The president emphasized that Christmas is a special time to reflect on the past and dream of a better future. “It’s a time to sit with family and remember what truly matters: our people, our roots, our history,” he stated, while calling on citizens to work together to build a fairer and more equitable Dominican Republic.
Among the achievements highlighted by the president, he underscored the following points:
- Reduction of poverty: With the goal of reducing overall poverty to 15% and extreme poverty to under 1%, the government is making progress through programs like Supérate, which are transforming lives.
- Education as a central focus: The president mentioned programs such as Escuelas Abiertas y Activas (Open and Active Schools), along with school health and environmental education strategies, which impact not only students but entire communities.
- Growing economy: Key sectors such as free zones, tourism, and exports have been strengthened. Through these strategies, the country aims to reach a per capita income of $15,000 and expand the middle class from 40% to 50% of the population.
- Investment in infrastructure: The head of state highlighted emblematic projects such as the Integrated Transportation System in the capital and the monorail in Santiago, which will make the latter one of the best-connected cities in the Americas by 2026.
- Goal of zero hunger by 2028: Declaring the country free of hunger is not just an aspiration, but a promise backed by concrete actions.
The president emphasized that these achievements have a clear goal: to improve the quality of life for Dominicans by ensuring access to potable water, formal jobs for 80% of university graduates, and affordable, safe housing.
With a call for unity, President Abinader urged Dominicans to dream of a country where progress is a right, not a privilege. “This Christmas, let the true gift be hope in the country we want,” he concluded, wishing all Dominicans a Christmas filled with love, peace, and unity.
