The Metropolitan Hospital in Santiago de los Caballeros (Dominican Republic) has announced an agreement with the Marriott International hotel company to jointly develop a project to promote health tourism in the country, under the “Residence Inn by Marriott brand.

A 111-room tower called the HOMS Health and Wellness Center (HHWC) will be built, designed to accommodate both the patient and their companions or relatives. The hospital-hotel will also host professionals who come to Santiago for events or to perform medical procedures. The HHWC will have a conference room to hold 400 people.

Chairman of Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Hospital of Santiago de los Caballeros (HOMS), Dr. Rafael Sánchez Español, explained that the aim of HOMS continues to be to provide the country and the region with “quality medicine, in step with scientific and technological advances.” While the hotelier will contribute its experience in accommodation and well-being.

“We are thrilled to bring the Residence Inn by Marriott brand to the Dominican Republic, and with it the concept of extended hotel stays. It also gives us the chance to further expand the Marriott International portfolio in the country, where we already have 14 hotels under 9 brands, including the Renaissance, JW Marriott and Autograph Collection Royalton”, said Paula Cerillo, Director of Development for Marriott International in the Caribbean, in statements to Diario de Salud.
