The Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona) reported that the performance of the sector in the first nine months of the year resulted in a growth of 6.6%.
According to the figures released by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), the first quarter saw a growth of 7.5%, the second of 9.8%, and the third quarter of 2.6%.
Exports from free zones were valued at approximately US $ 6,000 million, an increase of 11.7% compared to 2021, which amounted to approximately US $ 5,300 million.
The president of the Adozona, Luis José Bonilla, said that every year the free zone sector is stronger and more competitive.
“The results have been exceeding our projections, I think this is a sign of the resilience of the free zones, their importance, and that the sector is definitely a pillar of the Dominican economy,” said Bonilla.
In the first quarter-2022, the value exported was US $ 1,865.6 million equivalent to a growth of 13.3%, while in the second quarter exported value was US $ 2,092.9 million, equivalent to a growth of 15.8%. In the third quarter the value exported was US$1,979.9 million, equivalent to a growth of 6.3%.
