Free zone companies are one of the sectors to generate formal jobs in the country and closed 2022 with 192,291 workers and a growth of 4.9% compared to 2021, when there were 183,235, i.e., 9,059 additional jobs. 8.91% more than in 2019.
At the end of 2022, this sector had exports for US$ 7,767 million, 8.2% more than in 2021.
The jobs created in the sector recovered and exceeded the figures for 2019, after a fall to 168,000 in 2020, following the covid-19 pandemic.
According to data from the National Council of Free Zones (CNZF), in 2021, there were 183,232 jobs, 6.7% higher than the 2018 figures (171,726); 3.78% higher than 2019 (176,555) and 8.94% those for 2020 (168,200).
In 2022, of a total of 192,291 workers, 97,684 were female and 94,607were male.
The activities that generate the most jobs are manufacture of tobacco and derivatives, with 38,856; apparel and textiles, with 36,967; services, with 35,708 and manufacture of medical and pharmaceutical products 30,549.
Other important lines are the manufacture of electrical and electronic products, with 11,630; footwear and its components with 7,263 and agro-industrial products, with 4,639. The average salary per week is RD $ 4,375 for operators and RD $ 7,665 for technicians, both with an increase of 20% compared to 2021, according to the figures analyzed.
