The value of exports of the free zone sector experienced a relative growth of 26.6% during January-September 2021 with respect to the same period of 2020, as they amounted to the sum of US$5,301.9 million, compared to the US$4,195.8 million registered last year.

Through a document issued by the National Council of Free Export Zones (CNZFE), it was informed that within the subsectors with the highest growth in terms of their exports are: jewelry with a participation of 93.9%; tobacco and cigar manufacturing with 57.5%; textile manufacturing 50.0%; electrical and electronic products 6.9% and medical products with 4.1%.

The executive director of the CNZFE, Daniel Liranzo, said that exports and jobs in the free zones have shown a trend of full growth during the first nine months of the year.

According to the CNZFE, at the end of September of this year, 179,950 direct jobs in the sector were reached.

Employment levels are led by the tobacco and cigar manufacturing subsector, with 22.2% of the total. This is followed by textile manufacturing with 19 % and services (Call Centers) with 17.7 %, among others.

Liranzo added that, the growth that this sector has been registering, it contributes to the dynamism of the economy, since this implies the generation of more jobs, which affects more salary payments, as well as in the purchases and local expenses made by the free zone companies.

“With this, the valuable contribution, in economic and social terms, that free zones have in our country becomes evident,” he pointed out.
