The Dominican Republic records, for the first quarter of 2024, an increase in the spending-to-stay ratio of foreign tourists compared to the same period in 2023, also marking new figures for this item in the nation’s tourism sector, surpassing the record figures recorded between January-March 2023, reaching over US $10, maintaining the pace of increase – except for 2020 – since 2009, according to information gathered by Infotur Dominicano based on data provided by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD).

In this regard, the Dominican Republic records in the first quarter an expenditure index by non-resident foreigners of US $167.98, representing US $10.39 more compared to the first quarter of 2023 and well above the 1Q of 2022 when US $134.83 was recorded (+US $33.15), and likewise surpassing the 1Q of 2021 which stood at US $128.47 and the 1Q of 2020 which was US $131.51.

Regarding the average nights per stay, the country records in 1Q of 2024, 8.35, a minimal difference compared to 1Q of 2022 which was 8.57 nights, as well as with 1Q of 2021 which according to the BCRD was 9.96 and as reference data in 2020 it was 8.75 and in 2019 it was 8.39 per stay.
