Santo Domingo. – The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the Development and Export Bank (BANDEX) signed an inter-institutional agreement in which they commit to increase the environmental performance of the national productive sector, through training in Cleaner Production, sustainable practices, and efficient use of resources.
Under the agreement signed by Minister Orlando Jorge Mera and Juan Mustafá Michel, general manager of BANDEX, steps will be taken to increase competitiveness and productivity, and prevent and/or minimize negative environmental impacts, as well as reduce the risks associated with manufacturing.
“Without a doubt, BANDEX is one of the actors that must contribute to having a sustainable country. You play a fundamental role in changing the way your customers do business, while also being regularized in compliance with environmental standards, so, it is a very important step for us, “said Minister Jorge Mera. ”
Likewise, a workgroup coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment was set up to draw up a plan of action to establish the criteria for implementing the National Sustainable Production and Consumption Policy, aimed at promoting a more sustainable export policy.
“As a Development Bank, BANDEX will provide support to projects offering solutions to environmental problems and contributing to the preservation of the environment and we will initiate an internal process to ensure that Dominican projects have access to the green funds available to promote this type of practices worldwide,” said Juan Mustafá.
This agreement, which lasts four years, encourages the creation of credit lines or financing mechanisms that favor public or private investments in clean technologies or sustainable consumption and production initiatives, with the application of circular economy.
Likewise, training modules will be established on the guidelines for obtaining environmental permits for projects to be financed by BANDEX; according to the criteria established in the regulations and procedures for environmental authorizations.
The agreement arises from the State´s need to protect, conserve, improve, restore, and make sustainable use of natural resources and the environment, and eliminate patterns of unsustainable production and consumption.
