The Dominican Republic leads the list of tourism destinations globally with the highest increase in foreign visitor flows in 2023 compared to pre-pandemic levels.
Likewise, the Dominican tourism sector was the best performer post-recovery, according to the results of the “Global Travel Trends Report 2023,” prepared by travel analytics firm ForwardKeys.
The country had 14% more visitors received by air in 2023 compared to 2019. It was followed by Colombia and Mexico, both with 5%, and Greece, with 3%. The other places were topped by Portugal (-1%) in sixth place, followed by Argentina (-3%), United Arab Emirates (-7%), Turkey (-9%) and Egypt (-10%), according to the recovery of destinations based on foreign tourist arrivals.
According to these data, the list of the top 10 destinations is nominated by countries located in the Caribbean.
