In 2022, some 118 flight operations were carried out, setting an unprecedented record in the country, according to the interim director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), Hector Porcella.
“We moved 15.5 million passengers through the different international airports in the Dominican Republic, meaning, we broke all the records and everything we had planned,” said the director.
Porcella emphasized that the goal for this year, 2023, is to break last year’s achievements in commercial aviation in the country.
All-time record
During the television program D’AGENDA, the official said that never in the history of commercial aviation in the Dominican Republic had more than 118 air operations been carried out in one year.
” We moved 15.5 million passengers through the different international airports in the Dominican Republic, meaning, we broke all the records and everything we had planned, and our goal for this year is to break last year’s achievements,” he said.
Punta Cana
He mentioned Punta Cana airport in particular, which is the busiest and mobilizes 60% of all air operations, and in 2022 exceeded eight million passengers who transited through the terminal, thus establishing a record.
AILA
He added that Las Americas Airport José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA) also set a record with more than five million passengers entering or leaving the country through that airport terminal.
“But Santiago also broke the record of air passenger traffic, as well as air operations. Last year we closed above 118 thousand air operations, flights in the Dominican Republic are both those that land, and those that take off, because we have to give the guarantees and security of air operations” he said.
