The communication and marketing agency The Blueroom Project has presented the I Study of Perception on Safe Destinations, spring 2021 edition, covid-19; with the aim of making known which are the national and international destinations with the best perception to travel this summer according to tourism professionals in Spain, as well as the requirements for choosing the destinations and profiles of the people most likely to travel.

One of the main conclusions of this report points out that those destinations that have been declared open to tourism and at the same time have combined a coherent management of the covid-19, with low incidence figures and good external communication, will continue to be the most likely to have to receive greater tourist flows next summer.

Maldives, United Arab Emirates and Seychelles occupy the first three positions of international destinations with the best perception to travel next summer, according to the study, in a ranking that also includes Costa Rica (71%) or Japan (67%), as well as Greece (63%) and Portugal (57%) as European representatives.

By continents, Europe is led by Greece, Portugal and Italy as the destinations with the best perception to travel next summer, while the Maldives, United Arab Emirates and Japan are the best perceived Asian countries.

Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic and Cuba are the three American countries with the best perception, according to Spanish tourism professionals; and Seychelles, Mauritius and Tanzania have been the most voted within the African continent.

The Canary Islands, the most popular destination in Spain

Among the destinations with the best perception of sun and beach, nature and open spaces, the Canary Islands is the most demanded destination in Spain, staying in first place with 83%, followed by Andalusia, which takes 79% of the votes and Balearic Islands, the third with the best perception among those surveyed. Two destinations in the north of Spain sneak into the top 5 of this ranking: Asturias, which occupies the fourth position, with 60% and Galicia, with 59%.

Profile of traveler most likely to travel

Vaccination returns the freedom to travel, being those already vaccinated the main group indicated by 77.93% of those surveyed. According to the agency, couples remain the main target audience in the Spanish market (57%), without neglecting the increase in millennials (48%) and traditional family tourism (42%).

Digital nomads and workers are also a group prone to travel next summer for 28% of tourism professionals as well as seniors, according to 12%.

What will make travelers decide?

According to experts, security against covid-19 and flexible offers will be the main points that they will take into account when choosing a tourist destination. Nature and open spaces will also be a fundamental factor, indicated by 63% of those surveyed, while connectivity or accessibility is important for 27%.

Tourism professionals also point to image or reputation as a differentiator, as does sustainability.

“In a period where travel specifiers are going to have a fundamental weight in choosing and organizing trips, it was very important to consult them about their perceptions. Vaccination together with health security measures, connectivity, nature and open spaces, the availability of labor mobility, sustainability and accumulated reputation, in accordance with a transparent and coherent strategic communication with the management of the pandemic, are shown as key factors in the recovery of national and international destinations within the Spanish market ”, stated the founder and CEO of The Blueroom Project, Alejandro Pérez-Ferrant.
