This result means a year-on-year growth of 16.7%
The executive director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), Biviana Riveiro, reported that the Dominican Republic has started the year 2025 with a “historic performance” in exports, reaching a total of 979 million dollars, which makes it “the best January in the history of Dominican exports.”
In a press release, she indicated that the result represents a year-on-year growth of 16.7%, equivalent to an absolute increase of 140.3 million dollars compared to January 2024.
She also specified that this increase is in addition to the record reached in 2024, when exports totaled 12,925.1 million dollars.
The performance of exports over the last few years has evolved positively, with January 2025 far exceeding the values of previous years, which ranged from 762.3 million dollars in 2019, a pre-pandemic year, to 838.7 million dollars in 2024.
The report details that this growth reaffirms the sustained recovery and expansion of the export sector, consolidating the Dominican Republic as a key player in the region’s international trade.
“This beginning of the year is a reflection of the joint effort of the national productive sector and the export promotion strategies implemented. The performance in January 2025 motivates us to continue strengthening our commercial capabilities and diversifying markets, ensuring that the Dominican Republic maintains its growth and leadership in the region,” said Riveiro.
Exports to the United States registered the highest absolute growth, with an increase of 36.9 million dollars, which represents an increase of 8.3%. Followed by Canada, a country that registered a growth of 35.9 million dollars, which represents an increase of 821.2% compared to exports made to Canadian territory in January 2024.
In the particular case of Canada, this performance was driven by products such as:

2.Hollow structural sections (+177%)
3.Fruits
4.Ultraviolet devices
5.Vegetable seeds
6.Dried coconuts
7.Rum
8.Other
Exports to Haiti grew by 54.7% (+ 34.2 million dollars), with a total exported of 96.8 million dollars, thanks to the increase in sales of cement (+6.0 million dollars) and iron bars with an increase of 4.8 million dollars).
Free Trade Zones
ProDominicana also specified that the Free Trade Zones continue to lead exports, reaching an all-time high of 559.8 million, increasing by 3.1%.
They assured us that this performance highlights the importance of free zones in the creation of jobs and their contribution to the country’s sustainable development and economic competitiveness. Followed by national exports, which reached 397.13 million dollars with a relative increase of 117.6 million dollars (+42.0%).
With eyes firmly focused on the sustainable development of exports, ProDominicana said that it maintains its commitment to enhance the country’s presence in international markets by identifying strategic opportunities and participating in trade promotion initiatives.
