Tourism Minister, David Collado, announced that the country will shine at the 2025 International Tourism Fair (Fitur). “At Fitur, we are going to announce major brands that are entering the Dominican Republic, thanks to the confidence generated by the Tourism Cabinet.”

“This year marked the Dominican Republic throughout the region as a leader in tourism.”

“We’re here with new tourism projects now at Fitur, presenting Punta Bergantín (in Puerto Plata), Miches, Pedernales and Las Terrenas,” the official detailed.

He also stated that Samaná will see a great resurgence and the introduction of great brands to Las Terrenas will be announced at Fitur.

The head of Mitur made these statements while presenting the figures for tourism in 2024, revealing that the Dominican Republic received 11 million 192 thousand 47 visitors, a historical record for the Caribbean nation.

The Dominican Republic had an “extraordinary” end to the year with the arrival of 8,535,742 tourists by air and another 2,656,305 cruise passengers in the January-December period, reaching the historic figure of 11,192,042 visitors in 2024.

“These results are more than just numbers, they ratify how increasingly strong our industry is, a true benchmark in world tourism,” said Minister Collado.

The arrival of these 8,535,742 tourists by air represents a growth of 32% compared to the same period in 2019, 19% compared to 2022 and 6% compared to 2023, the official said.

Meanwhile, the arrival of 2,656,305 cruise passengers last year also represents a growth of 141% compared to the same period in 2919, 103% compared to 2022 and 18% compared to 2023.

Highlighting the arrival of 11,192,047 visitors last year, Collado indicated that this represents a growth of 48% compared to 2019, 32% compared to 2022 and 9% compared to 2023.

Collado pointed out that the countries that contributed the largest number of tourists were the United States, with 46%, Canada with 17%, Colombia with 5%, Argentina 4% and Puerto Rico 3%.

The largest number of tourists arrived through the airports of Punta Cana with 59%, Las Américas 24%, Cibao 11%, Puerto Plata 5% and La Romana 1%.

The minister assured us that the tourism industry will continue registering sustained growth, surpassing its own records this year, 2025.
