The governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu, indicated that the prospects of the tourism sector remain favorable, so that, “if this trend continues, it is estimated that 7.8 million non-resident passengers will arrive by air at the end of 2023.”

Valdez Albizu highlighted that the sector with the greatest contribution to the result of gross domestic product (GDP) in 2022 was hotels, bars and restaurants, with a year-on-year expansion of 24.0% in their real value added.

The chief executive of the BC released a statement after the recent meeting he held with the IMF delegation, whose head of the Monetary Fund mission, Emilio Fernández-Corugedo, said that the Dominican economy continues to show a positive outlook, is proactive in the regulation and supervision of the financial system and exhibits a good business climate.

The international organization said that the Dominican economy was the most “dynamic” and “resilient” of the last two decades in Latin America, thanks to a proper implementation of monetary policy, a robust financial system and solid macroeconomic fundamentals.
