U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed the importance for his country and the world to be associated with the Dominican Republic as the largest economy in the Caribbean and the fastest growing in Latin America.
During his visit to the National Palace, where he met with Dominican President Luis Abinader, Blinken said that the United States and the Dominican Republic are pushing for more growth and expanding inclusive opportunities for people.
“Last month we signed an open skies agreement that will allow more commercial flights between the two countries, which will generate more trade, tourism and jobs,” he said.
He said he will be meeting with several Dominican students and teachers that the United States has helped prepare for jobs, through training in the English language.
He also announced that the US is launching an initiative in three Dominican and U.S. universities to provide training to Dominican students for success in the semiconductor industry.
“I’m also announcing the first phase of a supply chain investment through USAID (United States Agency for International Development), initially three million dollars that will help the Dominican government improve training for the workforce, build industrial parks and attract high-tech industries to the Dominican Republic”, he detailed.

The U.S. official explained that this program will advance the priorities of the Alliance for Economic Prosperity of the Americas, which includes a dozen countries, to modernize economic relations, worker protection and make critical supply chains more resilient.
Blinken thanked Abinader for the Dominican Republic’s leadership in the effort, especially in promoting democracy, transparency and the rule of law that both nations share.
