During his weekly meeting with the press, President Luis Abinader referred to Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), describing them as tools for national development that represent a key alternative to encourage strategic infrastructure projects.

In relation to the investments registered in the country being carried out under the PPP concept, he highlighted that, this Monday, the British newspaper Financial Times hailed the investment climate in the Dominican Republic.

When defining PPPs, he said they are long-term contracts between public and private agents, to provide, manage or operate social goods and services with shared investment and risk and remuneration linked to contractual performance.

These initiatives not only close the public infrastructure gap, but also improve the quality and scope of public services, boost the national economy, and encourage productive job creation, thus contributing to the country’s competitiveness.

Abinader went on to highlight that this model has been successfully tested in Latin America, according to reports by The Economist and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), placing the nation among the six leading countries in this area.

The report highlights that the Dominican Republic is ranked 10th out of 26 countries in the overall score, has a strong regulatory base and a diverse portfolio of long-term infrastructure projects.
