According to a report by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and MSMEs (MICM), Free Zone exports grew 9% in January 2023 compared to January 2022, and reached US$ 522 million in January this year.
The institution emphasized that comparing the sector’s performance with January 2019, a pre-pandemic year, exports from free zones grew 23%, reinforcing positive expectations about the sector’s performance.
In the month in question, free zone regime exports accounted for 61.6% of the US$ 847.4 million exported in total, while those of the national regime accounted for 38.4%, reaffirming the predominance of free zones in the Dominican export structure.
The institution noted that the sector exported US $ 42.9 million more than in January 2022, for a total of US $ 521.9 million this year, compared to US $ 478.9 registered in the same month last year, according to figures from the General Directorate of Customs (DGA).
The Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, said that the sector maintains a trend of sustained growth and has made important investments, positively impacting its production capacity and the creation of jobs.
