The project aimed at promoting the transformation Cabo Rojo port to create a positive impact on the economy and development of Pedernales, was submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources last Tuesday, September 27.
José Ramón Reyes, Deputy Minister of Coastal Resources, said that this project must now be assessed.
“The Cabo Rojo project has only just been submitted to the ministry, now we have to assess the project. We understand there is a public hearing in Pedernales regarding the project where all the players will meet. As far as we are concerned, the project was filed yesterday to begin the evaluation,” Reyes said.
When participating at the “Corripio Communications Group Luncheon”, the deputy minister explained that “(…) Right now that dock is used to unload heavy materials.”
Environment Minister Miguel Ceara Hatton said it could take up to six months to complete the assessment.
“We have to wait to finish the study. That can take like six months,” Ceara Hatton said.
The project to fit out the current port of Cabo Rojo as a cruise ship dock is part of the steps that the central government has been carrying out to promote the development of Pedernales and much of the southern region of the country.
