In support of tourism and promoting Dominican cultural roots, President Luis Abinader led the groundbreaking ceremony for the San Felipe Market, which will have a private investment of more than 1,000 million pesos from the Dominican Tourist Entertainment Trust.
Located in Puerto Plata’s Historic Center, it will host nine attractions and multisensory immersion experiences about coffee, cocoa, rum, tobacco, amber and larimar, baseball, carnival, music and a 4D cinema, where local and foreign visitors can venture into Dominican history, gastronomy, sport and culture.
Products showcasing local handcrafts and talent will also be on display.
Describing the project as unique, Dominican and genuinely high quality, the President offered full support from the government “because it will add quality to the service of tourists and is a complementary offer of various levels.”
The construction of the San Felipe Market will be completed by the end of 2023 and will generate about 300 direct and indirect jobs.
In addition, it will add to the tourist attractions available in Puerto Plata which include the San Felipe Fortress, the General Gregorio Luperón House Museum, the Amber Gallery, the Taíno Art Museum and the San Felipe Apostolic Cathedral.
