The Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona) reported that the free zone sector registered a record growth in the January/April 2022 period, surpassing the US$2,500 million mark in the first third of a year, for the first time in history.

Adozona believes that 2022 will break the US$8 billion barrier in exports for the first time, making it the second consecutive record year, since 2021 was the first year in history when free zone exports exceeded US$ 7 billion.

The president of Adozona positively assessed the work that this sector has been doing with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and MSMEs and Minister Víctor Bisonó, confirming the success represented by the joint effort between the public and private sector.

“These numbers show that our forecasts for the end of this year are correct, everything indicates that the sector’s exports this year will exceed US $ 8,000 million for the first time in history, positioning us as the most important sector in the country in the economic recovery and job creation,” said Luis José Bonilla.

According to official figures, April was the best April in the history of Free Trade Zones, going from US$580.40 million in the same month in 2021 to US$657.33 million this year, equivalent to a growth of 13.3%.

It was also the 3rd best month in the history of exports from free zones of the country, surpassed only by the months of March 2021, with US $ 667.43 million and March 2022, with US $ 735.52 million.

The Dominican Republic exports products to more than 135 countries.
