President Luis Abinader headed this Tuesday the presentation of the tourism expansion strategy supported by the Country Brand that the Dominican Republic will deploy in the next edition of the International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2022, in which the country will participate as a guest partner.
Accompanied by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, the president expressed that this step taken by the country is a sign of commitment to important allies, such as IFEMA and all those who visit the fair in search of opportunities.
“Starting 2022 validating the country’s commitment to the industry, will be a firm step to start the year of the full recovery of tourism. We do not waste any opportunity that is given to us and we work day by day with the purpose of placing our country as one of the best tourist destinations in the world,” said Abinader.
This participation is of great importance and strategic visibility for the promotion of the Dominican Republic’s great tourist attractions to the world at the most important tourism fair in the world.
The figure of FITUR Partner, implemented in 2016, establishes a broad field of joint action in the most significant areas of promotion and communication of this great event of the tourism industry to be held from January 19 to 23, 2022 organized by IFEMA MADRID, at the Fairgrounds of the Spanish capital.
The collaboration of the partner country also contributes to creating a close link with the sum of the brands “Dominican Republic, It Has Everything” and FITUR, which will allow the Caribbean destination, with its long and consolidated participation in the Fair, to take advantage of and make even more profitable the magnificent promotional potential of the event in the face of the world.
In addition, the country will be part of the great week-long display under the symbolic slogan “We embrace the world” that will be projected internationally from the city of Madrid, on the occasion of FITUR.
President Abinader also stressed that this participation reaffirms the commitment of this government to relaunch Dominican tourism in order to achieve the highest occupancy rates, attract new investments, and continue to improve the quality of the Dominican Republic’s offer to the world.
For his part, the Minister of Tourism stressed that participating as a partner in FITUR next January will mean starting the year with a full-throttle to achieve the full recovery of Dominican tourism and make 2022 the year with the highest number of tourist arrivals in the country.
“We are betting on being a partner in FITUR in 2020, in the midst of a difficult situation, when no one was thinking about it, which has put our country in an enviable position and we are sure that it will be a successful bet” stressed, Minister Collado.
Meanwhile, the general manager of IFEMA Madrid, Eduardo Lopez Puertas, said that it is a privilege and never ceases to amaze the organizational capacity of the country, so he appreciated the honor of being partners in the most important fair of all history.
He said that in this transcendental edition he could not have a better ally, a more relevant FITUR partner than the Dominican Republic, a country capable of representing the determination to excel.
He affirmed that the Dominican Republic is a world reference for the expected recovery of tourism.
Unbeatable expectations
This year will be a very special edition in which FITUR, the only tourism fair in the world that has maintained its celebration despite the hiatus inactivity caused by the pandemic, will once again resume its momentum with participation figures that to date have already experienced a 53% growth compared to the exceptional event held in May 2021.
Likewise, this year’s forecasts point to an upward trend, reinforcing its role as the world’s leading trade fair and the “hub” par excellence for the Ibero-American market.
FITUR 2022 will, therefore, be a driving force to revitalize tourism activity at a time that shows clear signs of improvement, in which travel is returning and in which the Fair will strengthen all of its resources in its essential mission of contributing to the recovery of tourism.
An unbeatable context for hosting the stellar presence of the Dominican Republic, a country that is already a world reference for this recovery, in which the gradual normalization of tourism activity is added to the support provided by the Spanish Government’s declaration of FITUR as an Event of Exceptional Public Interest.
It also adds to the support it receives from the entire value chain of the international tourism industry. FITUR 2022 thus provides an exceptional backdrop for opening up new avenues of expansion and business opportunities for the Dominican Republic in the European and Asian markets.
The best framework for promotion to the entire world
Furthermore, the fact that FITUR is being held in Madrid, with its professional attendance, repercussions, and media coverage, also on a national level, represents an important added value for the large-scale promotion of the Dominican Republic in Spain, where this Caribbean destination has proven to be one of the most desired by Spaniards, placing Spain in the top four countries of origin.
Thus, under the slogan ‘Lo Tiene Todo’, the Dominican Republic will have the best international showcase to promote all its values as a tourist destination and highlight the warmth of its climate and the hospitality of its people, its connectivity with more than 1,400 airports in more than 170 countries.
It will also count on the good management of the pandemic in terms of protocols for tourism, vaccination of the local population, and especially of workers in the tourism sector.
Its powerful hotel plant is also one of the most significant indicators of its capacity to attract tourists, which is why the main Spanish groups are among the best positioned in the destination and both the projects are undertaken and the investments underway clearly indicate that the Dominican Republic is a firm bet for the future.
The Dominican Republic’s stand will not only showcase its beautiful beaches of pristine sand, palm trees, and turquoise waters but also the best and most diverse gastronomic and cultural offerings, along with the most spectacular golf courses, its colorful nature, and the growing importance for the country of the Ecotourism, congress, and incentive tourism and wellness tourism segments.
Other major focuses of this participation will be in Santo Domingo, a cosmopolitan, fun city that is home to the Colonial City, the testimony that the Discovery of America began in Hispaniola. In addition, Santo Domingo has twice been awarded “Gastronomic Capital of the Caribbean”.
On the other hand, there will be Punta Cana, the biggest tourist pole of the country, with the best services of hotels and resorts, the international airport at the forefront of technology and great world connectivity; Samaná, the jewel of Dominican tourism, among nature, complementary offers and virgin beaches, as well as La Romana and Bayahíbe, with the spectacular enclave of Altos de Chavón, for wedding celebrations, honeymoons or to go with the family, or the new tourist developments in Miches and Montecristi, already in process.
There will also be merengue and bachata, rhythms that accompany tourists from morning to nightfall, and which have been recognized as Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
The union of the “Dominican Republic has it all” brand with the image of FITUR, in an exclusive collaboration, will allow this famous Caribbean destination, with its long and consolidated participation in the Fair, to take advantage of the magnificent promotional potential of the event and take part in the great display that for a week and under the symbolic slogan “We embrace the world” will be projected internationally from the city of Madrid.
The momentum of FITUR 2022 and its status as a hub for the Ibero-American market provides an unbeatable context for the Dominican Republic to open up new avenues of expansion and business opportunities in the European and Asian markets.
