President Abinader has awarded Gabriel Escarrer Juliá, president of Meliá Hotels, with the Duarte, Sánchez and Mella Order of Merit, for his enourmous contributions to tourism development in this country.
The award ceremony took place in the National Palace. Mr. Escarrer Juliá was accompanied by members of his family, including his son and chief executive of the hotel chain, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume.
Also present were State Secretary Macarrulla; Tourism Minister David Collado; president and vice president of Asonahores, Rafael Blanco Tejera and Andrés Marranzini, respectively.
A large number of representatives of Banco Popular lead by Grullon and Paniagua; Frank Rainieri, founder of the Puntacana Group; executive director of Inverotel, Ramón Roselló; chairman and editor of Grupo Preferent Rafael Caballero, and a large number of representatives from the tourism industry.
