They assured that Cabo Rojo will reach about 150,000 passengers this year and will also develop three new ports. Jean Luis Rodríguez, Executive Director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), stated that thanks to the operations of Port Cabo Rojo, more than three hundred direct jobs and around a thousand indirect jobs have been created, contributing to the development of Pedernales province and the southern region of the country.

He said that Cabo Rojo is a blessing for those who benefit from the arrival of cruise passengers, as in the Caribbean region, the average spending per visitor ranges from $90 to $120, and according to measurements in the Dominican Republic, the average expenditure is $108.

“Many young people in the area previously did not have the opportunity in this region, which is one of the poorest in the country, to have decent employment, and that is now possible thanks to Cabo Rojo port, which brought economic dynamism and has led many to return to their communities,” Rodríguez stated.

In an interview on the program Libremente, from the Panorama Media Group, the public servant clarified that the progress of the cruise terminals is a reality, as around 150,000 passengers are expected to arrive via Cabo Rojo this year, and three new ports are also under construction, each with a different theme.

He added that the key to the success of port projects is increased revenue, achieved through greater efficiency in collection and spending, approving projects in areas with sea access.

Cruise Ship Arrivals

Apordom highlighted that Amber Cove and Taíno Bay terminals in Puerto Plata will host 21 cruise ships in September; another 2 will arrive through Cabo Rojo, in Pedernales.

Apordom specified that, according to the cruise arrival report for September, Amber Cove will host the most ships, with a total of 12, followed by Taíno Bay with 9, and Port Cabo Rojo with 2, maintaining a steady flow of cruise ships arriving at different ports across the country.

It was also communicated that the cruise ships visiting Dominican ports include: MSC World America, Island Princess, Carnival Celebration, Carnival Vista, Carnival Mardi Gras, Adventure of the Seas, Carnival Sunshine, Carnival Magic, MSC Seascape, Celebrity Reflection, Valiant Lady, Norwegian Escape, Oasis of the Seas, and Carnival Conquest.

Through a notification, it was reiterated that, according to the cruise arrival scheduling, the dates may vary in case of weather conditions, which could lead to changes in the routes established by the cruise lines.
