Growth. The Ministry of Industry, Trade and MSMEs revealed that in February 2024, exports amounted to US$686.5 million.
The Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona) highlighted the results obtained by the sector during February 2024, accounting for 67.6% of the country’s total.
Adozona also reported that in the first 60 days of this year, exports from this sector reached a record figure of US$1,229.4 million.
According to data provided by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and MSMEs (MICM), during February 2024, total exports amounted to US$686.5 million, reflecting a growth of 12.9% compared to the same period of last year.
According to a press release, this achievement marks a milestone as the highest figure recorded for this month in the entire history of national exports.
The president of Adozona, Luis José Bonilla Bojos, highlighted that every month the sector’s performance demonstrates the fundamental role played by free zones in the Dominican Republic’s economic boost.
“Accounting for 67.6% of the country’s total exports is a testament to how essential free zones are to the development of the economy and the overall growth of our country. We can proudly say that we are one of the great pillars that drive the progress of our island in various ways: in job creation, economic growth, in attracting foreign investment, and the list goes on,” said Bonilla Bojos.
Among the activities with the highest absolute growth compared to February 2023, pharmaceutical products and medical instruments and equipment stand out, with an increase in exports of US$60 million, equivalent to an increase of 17.4%.
In addition, the recycling and sorting, plastic, cardboard, printed and stationery activities also experienced solid growth, with increases of 71.7%, 34.0%, 29.8% and 27.2%, respectively.
