How many jobs are there in the sector?
Liranzo added that to date, the free zone sector has more than 196,000 direct jobs, demonstrating the industry’s capacity to create formal and quality jobs for all.
He highlighted that in the last eight months, the sector experienced a growth of 2.5% in the value exported, registering a figure of 5,363.6 million dollars in exports during this period.
Also present at the meeting were the president of the Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona), Luis José Bonilla Bojos, and the deputy director of the Cnzfe, Yarisol López, among other public-private sector representatives.
The Board of Directors of the National Council of Free Export Zones (Cnzfe) approved the permits for the installation of 12 new free zone companies, which will generate 1,603 direct jobs in different locations in the country.
Also approved was the permit for the installation of an industrial park, with an estimated investment of 167 million pesos, which is expected to generate 1,209 direct jobs in the province of Santo Domingo.
This ordinary session was presided over by the vice-minister of Free Zones and Special Regimes of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM), Johannes Kelner.
The executive director of the Cnzfe, Daniel Liranzo, informed in a press release that, with the start-up of these new companies, an investment of more than 618,350.4 million pesos is projected, which will have a significant impact on the national economy.
Liranzo announced that these new companies will be dedicated to offering call center services, manufacture of doors, aluminum windows and suitcases, textile manufacturing, and tobacco processing, among other productive activities.
The provinces where these companies will be located are Santo Domingo, Santiago, Duarte, and Puerto Plata.
