República Dominicana recibió en el período enero-diciembre 2017 un millón y medio de cruceristas por los principales puertos turísticos del país.
Según una nota de prensa, hubo un notable dinamismo por las principales terminales marítimas durante todo el 2017, con mayor crecimiento durante los meses de noviembre y diciembre, época en que duplicaron los arribos de buques con nuevas rutas, principalmente por los puertos Amber Cove de Puerto Plata y La Romana.
Durante el período enero-diciembre, según las estadísticas de la Dirección de Cruceros del Ministerio de Turismo, arribaron por los principales puertos turísticos 1,546,444 visitantes para un crecimiento interanual de un 37.45% con respecto a igual lapso del 2016.
En este 2017 que recién finaliza, la terminal de cruceros Amber Cove de Puerto Plata pasó a encabezar como el puerto de mayor recepción de turistas del país al superar al de La Romana y alcanzar 659,622 visitantes entre pasajeros y tripulantes, para un incremento de un 40.15%.
La Romana que hasta el primer cuatrimestre de 2017 lideraba como el principal puerto turístico de República Dominicana con la mayor tocada de buques, alcanzó durante todo el año 562,652 visitantes y un crecimiento de un 17.91% con relación a enero-diciembre de 2016.
Mientras, el mes de diciembre, época de mayor dinamismo en turismo de cruceros en el Caribe, resultó vital para la terminal puertoplateña que estableció nuevos números en cuanto a tocadas de buques con 29, para un 49.51% con relación a igual período de 2016 que fue de 20 arribos.
A este dinamismo e incremento en la llegada de cruceristas se suma la inclusión de tocadas adicionales durante el fin de año por los puertos La Romana, Amber Cove y Santo Domingo por parte de las navieras Pullmantur, Norweigian, Carnival, Royal Princess, Costa Pacífica, entre otras.
Notable incremento por igual alcanzaron los puertos de Samaná y Cap Cana en este período, al obtener el primero 87, 803 visitantes incluido los tripulantes, y el segundo 47,364.
La ciudad de Santo Domingo, que en captación de extranjeros y llegada de barcos incluido cruceros y ferries por sus principales puertos Don Diego y Sans Soucí mantiene el tercer lugar a nivel nacional, estableció nueva marca al registrar 189,003 visitantes durante enero-diciembre de 2017 para un incremento de un 75.34% con respecto a igual período de 2016 que fue de 107,063.
Ambas terminales mantuvieron una intensa actividad durante todo el 2017, impulsado -según la información- con el arribo de nuevos buques de reconocidas empresas navieras atraídos por la diversidad, nuevos atractivos que ofrece la ciudad de Santo Domingo y a los planes de impulsarla como principal destino turístico del Caribe.

From January through December 2017, 1.5 million cruise passengers passed through the Dominican Republic´s main tourist ports.
According to a press release, the main maritime terminals were remarkably active throughout 2017, with greater growth during the months of November and December, when new routes doubled the number of ships arrivals, mainly to the Amber Cove, Puerto Plata and La Romana ports.
According to statistics released by the Cruise Directorate of the Ministry of Tourism, 1,546,444 visitors disembarked at the main tourist ports during the January-December period, resulting in a 37.45% year-on-year growth compared to the same period in 2016.
In 2017, the Amber Cove cruise terminal in Puerto Plata took the lead as the port to receive the greatest number of tourists in the country, overtaking La Romana, and recording 659,622 visitors between passengers and crew, meaning an increase of 40.15 %.
Until the first quarter of 2017 La Romana led as the main tourist port in the Dominican Republic with the largest number of vessels. It received 562,652 visitors throughout the year, a growth of 17.91% compared to January-December 2016.
Meanwhile, the month of December, the busiest time for cruise tourism throughout the Caribbean, was vital for the Puerto Plata terminal that set new records in terms of vessels docking with 29, up 49.51% compared to the same period of 2016 that saw 20 ships dock.
In addition to this energetic increase in the number of cruise passengers are the extra stops over the New Year period at the ports of La Romana, Amber Cove and Santo Domingo by the shipping companies Pullmantur, Norweigian, Carnival, Royal Princess, Pacific Coast, among others.
The ports of Samana and Cap Cana also saw remarkable increases during this period, receiving 87, 803 and 47,364 visitors including crew, respectively.
Santo Domingo, through the main ports, Don Diego and Sans Souci, holds third place on a national level in terms of numbers of foreigners and ships, including cruise ships and ferries. It set a new milestone by registering 189,003 visitors during January-December 2017, an increase of 75.34% with respect to the same period of 2016 with 107,063 visitors.
According to sources, both terminals were intensely active throughout 2017 thanks to the arrival of new ships from renowned shipping companies attracted by the diversity and new attractions offered by the city of Santo Domingo and by the plans to promote it as the main tourist destination of the Caribbean.
