En el primer semestre del 2020 la llegada de turistas a la República Dominicana por vía aérea se redujo en un 61% con relación al mismo período del año anterior, según datos incluidos en el Barómetro Turístico Enero-Junio.
En el documento, elaborado por el Viceministerio Técnico de Turismo, bajo la conducción de Radhamés Martínez Aponte, con datos del Banco Central, se indica que en enero-junio llegaron 1,394,091 visitantes no residentes vía aérea, lo que en término absoluto representó una disminución de 2,181,207 visitantes.
Destaca que los mercados con mejor desempeño en el periodo fueron: Finlandia con 70.3%, Irlanda 85.6%, Bulgaria 1.5% y Sucia 0.3%.
El Aeropuerto Internacional de Punta Cana registró una disminución de 64.6% durante el primer semestre del año, con relación al mismo período de 2019.
Esta terminal recibió 735,531 visitantes extranjeros no residentes.
Mientras que en Las Américas la afluencia de visitantes se redujo en un 59.8% y llegaron 196,206.
Por La Romana llegaron 58,732 para una disminución de 38.3%, el Cibao 44,285 para una baja de 63.8% y La Isabela 4,283 una reducción de 53.7%; también, Puerto Plata y El Catey registraron un comportamiento negativo de 49.5% y 49.4%, respectivamente.
