The Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona) reported that the accumulated export value was US $ 6,529.24 million during the first 10 months of 2022.

This is the highest month in the history of free zones for a January-October period. According to data provided by the General Directorate of Customs, accumulated exports from free zones up to October 2022 show double-digit growth (+10%).

They went from US$5,937.95 million (2021) to US$6,529.24 million (2022), equivalent to a very strong additional value of US$591.29 million.

The report highlights that the performance of three key items account for this growth. One of them is medical devices, which grow +20.6% until October from US$970.24 million (2021) to US$1,169.70 million (2022), equivalent to a contribution of an additional US$199.47 million in this 10-month period.

Then there is the textile industry, which grew +15.7%, going from US$709.11 million (2021) to US$820.38 million (2022), equivalent to a contribution of an additional US$111.28 million, and plastics exports that grow +45.8%, going from US$200.96 million (2021) to US$292.92 million (2022), equivalent to a contribution of an additional US$91.97 million.

The president of the Adozona, Luis José Bonilla, said that between January and October 2019, the export value of free zones was US$ 5,045.7 million, which represents an increase of 29.4% compared to this 2022, and a growth of 36.5% compared to 2020.

“We continue to exceed expectations and figures, without a doubt it is the result of a great effort by the entire sector, to propel and boost the Dominican economy,” said Bonilla. 187 new free zone companies have been approved for operation over the last two years.
