The free zones became one of the most important sectors of the Dominican economy, reaching a growth of 82.6% during the month of April, according to the Central Bank’s Monthly Indicator of Economic Activity (IMAE), a figure motivated by the dynamism achieved in its exports with a year-on-year growth of 108%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, V\u00edctor \u2013Ito- Bison\u00f3, \u201cthe free zone sector compensated the economy at a time of crisis and together with remittances contributed to the accumulation of reserves, as well as to the stability of the dollar, at a time when that was the exception in the rest of the countries of the region, as a result of the ravages of covid-19 \u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bison\u00f3 added that “today we can say that we have achieved the reactivation of 100% of the sector, and we continue to inaugurate new companies”, while highlighting that during the administration of President Luis Abinader “the approved companies reach 45, projecting the generation of 6,597 direct jobs and including the approval of two new parks that project 6,769 direct jobs, for a total of 13,366 new jobs \u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the presentation of the IMAE, the Governor of the Central Bank, H\u00e9ctor Valdez Albizu, highlighted the significant recovery of the productive activity of free zones, \u201cwhich has managed to reactivate its operations to 100%, favored by a climate of certainty achieved by the government of President Luis Abinader to attract new investments, strengthen commercial ties, and more favorable conditions in the international environment in terms of an economic reactivation faster than expected \u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister Bison\u00f3 stated that \u201cwe are proud to be part of the plans that have made it possible to design and execute a success story for the Dominican economy.
