In the first seven months of 2026, merchandise exports reached 9,277.0 million dollars, 1,029.1 million more than what was reported between January and July 2025, for a year-on-year increase of 12.5%. This increase was mainly influenced by higher sales of raw gold and tobacco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raw gold exports alone reached 1,834.7 million dollars during that period, 667.7 million more than the 1,166.9 million recorded between January and July 2025, a year-on-year growth of 57.2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If raw gold exports were excluded, the overall growth in exportable supply would be only 5.1%, according to the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana).<\/p>\n\n\n\n “This vigor reaffirms the strength and potential of the Dominican exportable supply, as well as the ability of our companies and productive sectors to avail of the opportunities of international markets and continue expanding the presence of Dominican products abroad,” said Vladimir Pimentel, executive director of ProDominicana, in a press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rise in tobacco prices<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This performance was followed by totally or partially deveined tobacco earning 161.2 million dollars as of July, with an additional 105.4 million dollars compared to the 55.7 million sold in the same period last year, registering an increase of 189.2%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This was one of the fastest growing categories within the tobacco and tobacco substitute segments (which includes the manufacture of cigars) that, overall, totaled 960.4 million dollars in the first seven months of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Medical Devices<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Products linked to the medical device sector also continued to weigh heavy in the export basket, exceeding 1,435 million dollars between January and July, equivalent to 15.5% of the total exported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Within this segment, orthopedic items and appliances stood out with a 600.6% growth, going from 14.3 million in January-July 2025 to 100.2 million in the same period of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Domestic and Free Trade Zones<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Overall, free zones accounted for 56.6% of total exports, accumulating 5,253.1 million dollars between January and July, a year-on-year growth of 3.9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meanwhile, the domestic regime reached 3,838.6 million dollars, for a year-on-year increase of 27.9%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The performance of both regimes is a sign of the country’s ability to compete and create opportunities in international markets, according to Pimentel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In the first seven months of 2026, merchandise exports reached 9,277.0 million dollars, 1,029.1 million more than what was reported between January and July 2025, for a year-on-year increase of 12.5%.
