The National Council of Free Export Zones (CNZFE) reported that the Dominican Republic’s free zones continue to consolidate themselves as a key pillar of the economy, registering sustained growth in the value of their exports during the first quarter of 2026, capitalizing on the structural changes in global trade and expanding their reach in international markets, despite persistent macroeconomic uncertainty.

During January-March 2026, the value of the sector’s exports amounted to US$ 2,085.1 million, an increase of 4.3% when compared to US$ 1,998.9 million recorded in the same period in 2025, for an absolute increase of US$ 86.2 million.

Executive Director CNZFE, Johannes Kelner, highlighted the performance of exports for the month of March 2026, which reached US$ 841.2 million, the highest monthly export figure recorded since the free zone sector was established in the country.

Kelner also highlighted the sector’s quarterly progress, highlighting the performance of medical device production, which leads exports with a value of US$ 721.5 million, a growth of 9.3% compared to the same quarter of 2025, while the manufacture of tobacco and electrical products showed an extraordinary boost with rebounds of 16.6% and 17%, respectively.

In a global environment marked by volatility and macroeconomic uncertainty, other key items, such as chemicals (+16.9%) and footwear (+6.6%), also maintained their upward trend, strengthening the diversity of the exportable supply.

Given this performance, the CNZFE reaffirms that these results answer to the strengthening of the business climate in the Dominican Republic, as well as to the confidence and solid governance generated by the current authorities of the sector, headed by the Minister of Industry, Trade and SMEs, Mr. Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, factors that continue to boost the competitiveness and positioning of Dominican free zones in strategic international markets.
