This result came in <strong>below the authorities\u2019 projections<\/strong>, which in October had estimated economic growth of approximately <strong>2.5%<\/strong> for the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Monthly Index of Economic Activity (IMAE)<\/strong> increased by <strong>2.3% in December<\/strong>, as reported on Thursday by the BCRD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Economic expansion in 2025 was driven primarily by the <strong>agricultural and mining sectors<\/strong>, as well as by <strong>financial intermediation services<\/strong> and the <strong>hotels, bars, and restaurants<\/strong> segment, among other industries, according to the BCRD\u2019s official press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throughout 2025, the Dominican economy faced <strong>significant challenges to growth<\/strong>, despite the monetary and fiscal measures implemented. In several months, economic activity expanded by as little as <strong>0.2%<\/strong>, including the growth recorded in <strong>October<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Downward revisions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Economic growth estimates for the country were <strong>revised downward during the year<\/strong>, first to <strong>3.5% at mid-year<\/strong> and subsequently reduced to <strong>2.5% in October<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On multiple occasions, the monetary authority indicated that the <strong>modest economic performance<\/strong> was largely influenced by a context of <strong>global uncertainty and tighter liquidity conditions<\/strong>, which adversely affected <strong>private investment<\/strong>, as well as by <strong>lower execution of public capital expenditure<\/strong> compared with the historical average in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, the BCRD projects a <strong>gradual recovery in economic activity<\/strong>, with growth expected to be around <strong>4.0% in 2026<\/strong>, supported by a <strong>stronger pace of public investment execution<\/strong> and <strong>favorable financial conditions<\/strong>, in line with the Central Bank\u2019s outlook.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The economy of the Dominican Republic expanded by 2.1% in 2025, according to official data released by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD).
