economy<\/strong> is expected to close <strong>2025<\/strong> with <strong>foreign currency revenues<\/strong> exceeding <strong>US$46 billion<\/strong>, driven by approximately <strong>US$11.7 billion in remittances<\/strong>, <strong>US$14.9 billion in exports<\/strong>, around <strong>US$11.2 billion in tourism income<\/strong>, and <strong>foreign direct investment (FDI)<\/strong> surpassing <strong>US$4.8 billion<\/strong>, according to projections reiterated yesterday by the <strong>Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The monetary authority explained the main methodological aspects involved in compiling <strong>external sector statistics<\/strong>, particularly the measurement of <strong>FDI<\/strong> and the role of <strong>foreign exchange-generating sectors<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In an article published on its <em>P\u00e1gina Abierta<\/em> platform, the BCRD clarified that <strong>foreign investment<\/strong> is composed of capital contributions, reinvested earnings, and loans from parent companies abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It emphasized that <strong>reinvested earnings<\/strong> form part of <strong>FDI<\/strong> because they represent profits generated in the country that are not repatriated but instead retained by investors as a <strong>long-term commitment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BCRD indicated that these <strong>data<\/strong> are submitted and validated with <strong>international organizations<\/strong>, and are gathered through <strong>quarterly forms<\/strong> sent by foreign investment companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It affirmed that its work adheres to <strong>international standards<\/strong> set by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>International Monetary Fund (IMF)<\/strong> \u2014 particularly the <em>Balance of Payments Manual, BPM6<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>World Bank<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Estimation of tourism and remittances<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The institution also explained that other components of <strong>foreign currency inflows<\/strong>\u2014such as <strong>tourism<\/strong> and <strong>remittances<\/strong>\u2014are estimated through surveys and regulatory platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tourism expenditure<\/strong> is calculated through a <strong>permanent survey<\/strong> conducted at airports, while <strong>remittances<\/strong> are recorded through reports from financial institutions in the <strong>Monetary and Financial Administration Portal (PAMF)<\/strong>, complemented by <strong>pocket remittances<\/strong> captured in surveys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BCRD highlighted that between <strong>January and September 2025<\/strong>, <strong>foreign currency-generating sectors<\/strong> showed solid performance, contributing to <strong>exchange rate stability<\/strong>\u2014the currency had depreciated <strong>3.5%<\/strong> by the end of November\u2014and to the strengthening of <strong>international reserves<\/strong>, which remain above <strong>US$14.4 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This figure represents <strong>more than five months of imports<\/strong> and more than <strong>11% of GDP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the institution underscored that the country&#8217;s <strong>political and macroeconomic stability<\/strong> has positioned the Dominican Republic as a <strong>regional leader<\/strong> in attracting <strong>foreign currency<\/strong>, especially in <strong>foreign direct investment<\/strong>, and reiterated its commitment to transparency and
